Baldwinsville Community Band
Baldwinsville Community Band
In December of 1979, Baldwinsville band teacher Phillip Sterling founded the Baldwinsville Community Band to give adult instrumental musicians a group with which to perform. The band performs classical and modern music, marches, medleys, seasonal music and show tunes. Funding for the band is by dues ($10) and donations. The band has 501(c)(3) tax status and all donations are tax deductible.
Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7PM to 9PM at Durgee Junior High School in Baldwinsville (see map below, take entrance closest to parking lot, band room is first hall to your left). There are no auditions and new players are always welcome! Rehearsals run October through May.
Membership: Band membership is open to any musician of high school age or older. The present membership is about 60 players, ranging in age from 20 to 80+, and includes over 20 founding members. In addition to Baldwinsville residents, members come from Camillus, Canastota, Chittenango, Cicero, Clay, Fulton, Liverpool, Manlius, North Syracuse, Phoenix, and Syracuse.
Members receive a schedule of concert dates and a music folder for home practice and for performances. Music stands are provided for rehearsals but members must bring their own stand to performances unless otherwise noted. Concert dress is our red band shirt (or your own red or white), black pants or skirt/dress, provided by the individual members.
Performances: The band plays about 15 one hour concerts a year, including a Memorial Day commemoration, summer outdoor concerts at area parks and gathering places, ice cream socials at nursing homes, Veterans’ Day concerts, and Christmas performances. The band does not charge for performances, but will accept donations to defray costs.
If you are interested in having the band perform, you will be asked to supply:

-staging area at least 30’ wide and 20’ deep
-concert area can be indoor only or outdoor weather permitting
for the audience -publicity to local media giving concert location, time,
